How Can We Help?

There are many ways you can help with the River Murray flood recovery.

Help businesses in flood-affected areas by shopping with them online.

Brand SA is supporting River Murray businesses to join the Shop Local SA online marketplace. Browse participating shops in the region to purchase gift cards and a range of goods.

Please do not take donations of food, or new or used goods, like furniture, appliances, clothes, or toys, directly to the affected communities. While they appreciate your generosity, there are not enough places to store, distribute or dispose of these types of donations.

Please complete the donating goods form if you have anything to donate. This will help make sure goods can be distributed to people based on their individual needs. Vouchers to purchase food, fodder and medication from local retailers are encouraged and appreciated.

The donating goods form provides more detail about things we can't accept. These include:

  • anything that needs an exchange of registration, identity documents, or legal transfer of ownership, such as vehicles, caravans, trailers, watercraft or real estate
  • age-restricted, illegal or dangerous items
  • medication of any kind
  • perishable food and animal fodder
  • illicit, inappropriate or pornographic material
  • lost or stolen property
  • animals
  • items on loan or that involve an ongoing fee or arrangement, such as appliance rentals or storage.

Food and consumable donations can go to Foodbank SA. For information, call 8351 1136.

Fodder donations can be directed to The Department of Primary Industries on 1800 065 522.

There are a number of reputable organisations active in the regions that can provide further advice regarding donations, should you require it. Also consider contacting:

Volunteering SA&NT is taking registrations from people interested in helping River Murray communities prepare for and recover from flooding.

Volunteer opportunities will depend on the type of help the community needs. Short-term volunteering may include tasks like cleaning up, transport or specialist administration tasks. Longer-term volunteering may include tasks like building and environment restoration and supporting community organisations.
