Local Economic Recovery Program

After the 2019- 20 bushfire season and the devastating damage caused, over $52.8 million of joint Commonwealth and State funding has been distributed to support both Kangaroo Island and Adelaide Hills regions, with projects community endorsed to rebuild the community and local industries.

The Local Economic Recovery (LER) Program is being used to create jobs, attract visitors and help key industries on the island.

All approved LER projects are now nearing completion with new jobs created and progress advised by all proponents. All grant applications were granted with an initial completion date of June 2022. An extension was granted by the Commonwealth until June 2023 to accommodate delays associated with COVID-19.

The complexities of building in a remote location such as Kangaroo Island have been exacerbated by the impacts of COVID-19. Projects have been delayed or amended due to restricted materials supply, the ongoing rise in materials and services cost, and availability of skilled workers.
